[Unichat log --]

Don't really know how to say this.

Every single one of you mean so much to me. You might not believe me, and I don't blame you, but I want you to know that I really do think of you as my friends.

Let me explain why I did this. Why I kept Padlock's true identity a secret, and allowed Delta to infiltrate our ranks.

The guy's had some sort of obsession with me for a while now. I don't know why. Maybe it was because I'm supposed to be "the best fan" or some shit like that? What a fucking joke. I never deserved that title, especially not now. But it was always me. I was the one he invited into his tea time conversations. I was the one he sent random pieces of information to, like Rasputin's name, like some sort of weird taunt. And I was the one he tried to get to spy for him. I suppose that in a way he succeeded with that last one, huh? When I confronted him about Padlock's message being traced back to him, he seemed glad I knew. Like he WANTED me to know.

Our "host," Xeno, is way too powerful. When she managed to somehow OVERWRITE what Gods was saying, I realized just how little we actually know about her abilities. Think about it. We've just been going along with this narrative this whole time, meddling with causality, but all we really know about the situation is what she tells us. How do we know we have the full story? How do we know Xeno isn't just using us to accomplish some agenda of her own? It's seems pretty clear that she's hiding information from us, and that freaks me the fuck out. Not even Seabiscuit knows anything about her. We don't trust Gods because he has these creepy and enigmatic abilities that we don't understand, and we don't really know what his true motives are. Same with Theo, and Vampire, and Pancake, and to a lesser extent Rasputin. Even when we work with them, we don't trust them, and rightly so, because we don't know shit about them except that they have superpowers. But in this equation, the biggest unknown quantity is the person who's been sending us chat logs this whole time, and I can't be the only person who realizes how terrifyingly, absolutely fucked-up that is.

Like it or not (and trust me, I fall very squarely into the latter category), we need to recognize that Delta might be the only one who can give us some means of piecing the truth together for ourselves. He can see everything we can see, but he's not reliant on Xeno for information like we are. She isn't sending him logs. As far as I can tell, none of the rest of us have that ability. Maybe DeepDark, but I haven't heard from them for ages. For the rest of us, if one day Xeno suddenly decides to stop sending us logs then we'd basically be blind. Locked out. Unable to influence the world at all. Have any of you ever wondered why it seems like a lot of us seem to drop off the face of the earth after only a couple of days? We've all been assuming they just lose interest, or get banned by Gods for some reason, or maybe there's a glitch in Etamnanki. But think about it. Aren't the ones who usually vanish the quickest also the most impulsive, the ones who immediately message Chess Club members and start giving away too much information? Have you ever thought that maybe Xeno cuts them off? That could happen to any of us. I've probably been kicked off the mailing list already, now that you know what I did. But Delta knows how to bypass that. He manages to access the logs without her permission, somehow. And we need to figure out how to do that too, if we want the freedom to do what we feel is right without Xeno's approval. That's the main reason why I didn't tell the Vague Omnipresent Council that Padlock was Delta when I figured it out. I made him agree to show me how to bypass Xeno. I suppose if he renegs, this is the last you'll ever hear from me.

Now, I don't want you guys to think I sold you out completely. Delta could have really fucked us over, and he didn't. He could have actively sabotaged our projects, or gone and tried to reveal our existence to the Chess Club again. We might not have lucked out the second time. Making sure he didn't do that was one of the terms of the exchange. I'd keep his secret, and he'd keep ours. Just, please try to remember that, okay?

Heh. I seem to always be the one responsible for bad shit happening to us. Best fan my ass. After Delta sold us out the first time, I couldn't help but blame myself. As is usually the case, when he contacted me I ran my mouth off and acted all abrasive and indiscrete, and I know that pissed him off. I couldn't help but think if I'd shut my mouth and been a bit more cooperative, it wouldn't have happened. That's also part of the reason why I went along with it this time. But I still feel like shit.

I'm sorry, guys. If I learn how to go freelance like Delta can I'll try to teach you, if you'll let me. If not, it's been nice knowing you. If Sonja notices my absence, just tell her I died or something. It's better than the truth.

Sincerely, Arbiter

(??:??)Xenocartographer: WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL ARE YOU PLAYING AT?!

(12:34)Seabiscuit: X- Xeno?!

(12:34)Wildcat: What's up?

(??:??)Xenocartographer: I need to speak to Arbiter. He's ignoring my PMs. Assist me.

(12:35)SansOfTheUnderground: uhm...

(??:??)Xenocartographer: ...

(12:35)CONNECT_1200: ...?

(12:35)Seabiscuit: ?!

(??:??)Xenocartographer: Either you are already aware or you're about to be. Padlock is Delta. Arbiter has disappeared along with them into a secondary exonoosphere, which the security memes prevent me from accessing. This is a problem.

I, however, have no such limitations.

(12:35)SansOfTheUnderground: i know what some of those words mean...

(??:??)Xenocartographer: ...

(12:40)Xenocartographer: Pretend, just for a moment, that you're an author. And you sure do love your plot twists. You've got a big one coming - oh, how it's going to wow the audience! But when you go to write it...

(12:40)Xenocartographer: You find another one in its place. One which you didn't intend. Your own characters have staged a plot twist of their own.

(??:??)Xenocartographer: Things fall apart. The center cannot hold. Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.

(12:41)Wildcat: Can someone just say plainly what's going on?!

(12:41)Xenocartographer: I'm being usurped.

(12:41)Seabiscuit: D:

(12:41)Seabiscuit: wh

(12:42)Seabiscuit: C- can you stop it?

(12:42)Xenocartographer: No. Delta's got their own nootic connection. I can't ban them, and Gods... won't. And I can only conclude they've brought Delta into it.

(12:43)Xenocartographer: So, if anyone knows anything about anything about this...

(12:45)CONNECT_1200: I... I do.

(??:??)Xenocartographer: Elaborate.

(12:45)CONNECT_1200: Arbiter... sent me something. I think he's concluded you're dangerous.

(12:45)CONNECT_1200: http://sincerelyarbiter.com

(??:??)Xenocartographer: Don't share it!

(12:45)Seabiscuit: D:

(12:46)CONNECT_1200: [censored], sorry.

(12:46)Xenocartographer: Well, the damage has been done. What more can you tell me?

(12:47)CONNECT_1200: Here, take a look.

Xenocartographer (Official Note): A little late on this one... First, I was on a train and the connection was crap. And then there were technical difficulties, which a particularly attentive reader might deduce something about. Yes, that's a hint.

Holy fuck balls.

I wonder how that woulda worked out if MrE had died? Woah, I wonder if thats why Gods wanted him dead.

But wait then

my brain itches

Gosh this was rather spook, haha. Arbiter, are you gonna turn evil on us?!

e: Also laughed hard at "Nah."
So short and sweet. edit delete reply

Guest: oMG GUYS GUYS I found something on this update can you find it edit delete reply
Xenocartographer: A hidden secret? Golly, what possibly could it be? edit delete reply
Seabiscuit: Woops, this was me!

Looks like Fallen Leaves figured it out on the forums~~ edit delete reply
FallenLeaves: Well, depending on how you define secret, there are at least two. There's another rather better one than the one I mentioned.
Oh, and that "~", it turns out, is infuriating even if you think you know what it means. You can never be quite sure. edit delete reply
SansTheComic: ohhh... crap. edit delete reply
Ravencorp: I offically have no idea what the heck is going on whatsoever. edit delete reply
Ravencorp: Ok, so correct me if I'm wrong, but padlock and delta, out-of-character, are the same person commenting with two different names, and in-character have secretly been working together by virtue of being the same person. Arbiter found this out, and now for some reason went on a big "xeno is maybe a bad guy" rant, and thats all I've got so far. Please, enlighten me. edit delete reply
Ravencorp: This whole development does render my planned "just how much can we effect the plot?" experiment obsolete, since apparently we can completely overturn everything. edit delete reply
Xenocartographer: No, there are limits, and trying to determine what they are isn't a bad idea. I won't let you break the story, so... Figure out what you can't influence, and that'll give you some hints as to what's important. :) edit delete reply
Xenocartographer: That's about the size of it. The next page should lend some additional clarity, but basically "Padlock" was Delta's tool for spying on (more relevantly, trying to influence) the council. As for Arbiter's rant, I think he explained it pretty well himself: I'm dangerous for the same reasons Gods is, namely mysterious powers that no one quite knows how to effectively counter, but I've constructed the narrative in such a way that Gods looks bad while I look good. edit delete reply
Xenocartographer: He's absolutely right, by the way. edit delete reply
Ravencorp: Methinks we may need to conduct some interrogations soon. edit delete reply
Arbiter: I found out Delta and Padlock are the same person out of character, and then when Delta revealed himself in the comments section a few days ago, explicitly sent me an in-character PM thanking me for keeping his identity a secret. I hadn’t planned on knowing Delta’s identity in-universe, but that kind of forced my hand, so I wrote the monologue from sincerelyarbiter.com (in which I claim Xeno is dangerous) to explain my in-character actions. If it doesn’t make sense, it’s because I was kind of flying by the seat of my pants and needed to make up an explanation I hadn’t expected would be needed. I’m okay with the direction the plot is going, but had it been left up to me, in-character Arbiter wouldn’t have known anything about Delta and Padlock. edit delete reply
Turquoise: Finally! Well at least now EVERYONE knows something is up. edit delete reply
Steve the Mew hunter: PFFFFTHAAAAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHA. I love it. edit delete reply

SansTheComic: /message MrE how would one go about sending truly secure messages?
/message MrE channel or just PMs, doesn't matter.
/message MrE to give an idea of the precautions needed, Gods' special channel isn't secure enough. edit delete reply
CONNECT 1200: I've been suspecting this for a while already, and now I'm pretty sure there's a different me around here. Not that it's much of a surprise with all the entangled timelines and stuff.

— — — — uh, whatever happens, at least I won't be regretting that I never tried.

/message CONNECT_1200 Hi there. edit delete reply
Ravencorp: FYI, change the URL from ?aux=[a number] to ?aux=1 and you get the message "The-Center-Cannot-Hold" in orange text. edit delete reply
Arbiter: Way to handle this, Xeno. Fucking masterful. I realize that I kind of threw you a curveball back there, and I want to say that you’ve done a great job at taking it in stride. I apologize if I messed up the plot you had planned, but the plot that’s being set up looks absolutely fantastic too! edit delete reply
Xenocartographer: You can't break the story. I won't let you. edit delete reply
Arbiter: Good to know. edit delete reply
Ravencorp: /join vague-omnipresent-council

It would seem we may have an issue. Said issue takes the form of Arbiter, who may or may not be a traitor. Pending further evidence, I say we remove him from the channel just to be safe, we can always re-add him if we are mistaken. I would recommend we look out for potential evidence to exonerate (or condemn) him.

However, pressing as a potential traitor may be, we also have another problem. The concerns about Xenocartographer raised by Arbiter's wall of text are certainly valid, as much as I hate to admit it. I would suggest that you explain your motives and the purpose of all this, Xeno. This council, or channel if we wish to take the name less literally, is composed almost solely of people who have randomly discovered these logs. We know nothing of each other or our motives, so a blind trust is what holds us together. Quite recently, we have had reason to doubt that all of our motives are pure, and as the source of these logs, your motives are the ones which matter the most. So if you don't mind, we'd like some more information as to just what your place and stake in all this is. edit delete reply
Steve the Mew hunter: Best of luck to all you "vague heroes", but I won't be joining in your fun. The only times I'll enter the playground is to troll heads, I don't have the time to play hero like the rest of you, at least not here. I will try and stay out of the way at least. edit delete reply
Steve the Mew hunter: Well, out of the way of you "vague heroes," Chess Club, not so much, they seem like a lot of fun to play with. I should not be allowed to get bored. edit delete reply
