BBC_Official: Unknown aircraft engage Russian warship outside Indian territorial waters
BBC_Official: At 11:52 PM local time, NATO reconstruction operatives received an emergency transmission from the Russian destroyer Satirical, outbound as part of standard personnel rotation. Rapid response teams were dispatched to assist the ship, which was found badly damaged and taking on water. SAR teams attempted to board, but were engaged and repelled by stealth aircraft of unknown affiliation. Elements of the USS Marauder's air wing scrambled to assist, but were confounded by the area's turbulent weather. No confirmation on survivors is yet available.
BBC_Official: UPDATE: At 12:02 AM local time, defensive installations belonging to both the NATO taskforce and Indian survivors went to high alert. Civil defence forces are scrambling.
BBC_Official: UPDATE: At 02:04 AM local time, local fisherman Vineet Mushnif reported witnessing the engagement on his fishing boat's radar. According to his report, he witnessed an unknown contact enter the CZ two minutes after first release of weapons and depart ten minutes later. He attempted to give chase, but the bogey entered waters too turbulent for his craft to follow. Mr. Mushnif has since been taken to the Marauder for debriefing.
BBC_Official: UPDATE: It has been brought to our attention that the man's name is properly spelt Munshif. Please accept this correction and our apologies.
BBC_Official: UPDATE: As of 8:00 AM local time, there have still been no confirmed reports of survivors among the Satirical's crew. The weather continues to confound local logistics.
BBC_Official: UPDATE: As of 9:00 AM local time, debris from the Satirical had been brought to shore for forensic analysis. Chemical assay has confirmed the attack was performed with Chinese-developed "Tianlong" warheads. NATO theatre command advises against any speculation in light of this, since the Tianlong is widely available on the international market and employed by a variety of governments, NGOs, and irregular operatives. This may be an attempt by the attackers to mask their identity, but it is equally possible that these weapons are simply amongst their normal ammunition.
BBC_Official: UPDATE: At 9:27 AM local time, Gunnery Sergeant Kirigina Maximovna of the Satirical was found clinging to a large hull fragment and has been taken in for questioning. Twenty minutes later, command of the investigation was taken up by the NPV Wisdom Like Silence, which has requested further updates be suppressed. Further information will be provided when it becomes available.
